BioCARe Programme is for the women researchers. The programme is targeted to enhance the participation of women researchers for their Career Development in the area of Biotechnology and is open to Indian Nationals. This programme is only open to Women Candidates
Stipend
Subject Area of research:
- Animal and Marine Biotechnology or allied areas
- Bioengineering and Biomaterials or allied areas
- Medical Biotechnology or allied areas
- Environmental Biotechnology and Bioenergy or allied areas
- Plant and Agriculture Biotechnology or allied areas
Eligibility:
- Women researchers who have completed Ph.D. in any discipline of Biotechnology/Life Sciences or allied areas/interdisciplinary sciences/MD/MDS/ M.V.Sc.
- Category-II: Women researchers who have completed M.Tech. in Biotechnology or in allied areas/M.Pharma/equivalent Degree holders.
- Candidates who are registered or enrolled in higher studies/Ph.D and/or receiving any fellowships are not eligible to apply.
- The research support will be provided only to women researcher (unemployed/not in regular position) for whom this is the first extramural research grant (Women researchers who have received any earlier grant from any Government Funding Agency as Principal Investigator are not eligible).
- For the submission of application, the candidates should select a mentor for the project proposal in a suitable host institute as per their choice.
- Candidates through Mentor and Nodal officer of the Host Institute are requested to submit an endorsement letter from the Mentor, in whose lab the applicant proposes to work, along with application for consideration. The letter should be on Letter head of the institute.
- Age should be upto 55 years only.
- The applicant must have been successfully awarded PhD/ M.Tech./ M.Pharma./ M.VSc./ MD/MDS/equivalent degree as on or before the last date of the submission of the application.
- The applicants currently availing any post-doctoral or contractual fellowship have to resign from the same before accepting the project under BioCARe programme.
- It will be mandatory for the applicant to get a Co-PI nominated from the BioCARe Institute/Organisation where she intends to join and work as a regular employee. All the necessary documents will be required to be submitted again for the same.
Selection Process
- Submit the online application through Common Fellowship Portal of Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India (https://fellowships.gov.in).
- The eligible applications will be screened by an Expert Committee constituted by the Department for shortlisting based on scientific merit.
- The shortlisted applicants will be required to present their research proposal to the Expert Committee. Once the project is technically approved, a formal sanction order will be issued as per the recommendations of the Expert Committee (EC).
Qualifications of a mentor
- Have a permanent employment at the Host Institution and should have at least 5 years of service remaining.
- Ensure the applicants’ access to laboratory space and resources required for the project, provide relevant scientific guidance and career advice for the tenure of the project.
- Mentors should be research active and successfully completed at least one project (extra-mural grant or intra-mural grant) funded by government/governmentsupported agencies/industries or any other organization as PI.
Tenure leaves
- No plans for long leave by the candidate.
- Candidate should not be away from the project for a period of more than 15 days in continuation and 30 days total during a year without the prior consent of Department of Biotechnology and the host Institution.
- All kinds of leaves e.g. casual leave, maternity leave, medical leave etc. will be entertained as per the rules of implementing institute and as per existing norms of Govt. of India and should be communicated to the Department.
- The project stands terminated in the absence of the PI for a continuous period of two (02) months without intimation and proper justification to this Department and to the hosting Institute.
- Participation in any scientific event in India or abroad in relation to BioCARe project activity will be treated as on duty.

Request for
expensive and/or major equipment is not allowed. It is
expected from the applicants to choose appropriate Laboratories and
Institutions where majority of the necessary equipment, instruments and
facilities required for the project are already available. |
All research related expenses such as
purchase of consumables, contingency expenditure, domestic travel and
overhead charges will be considered under recurring head. These expenses in the application must be supported by proper scientific justification and cost measures relied upon. Applicants should submit a request for their salary under research fellowship sub-head of recurring head |
