WARI Fellowship 2025
The Water Advanced Research and Innovation (WARI) Fellowship Program is a dynamic and transformative program for students and early-career faculty pursuing advanced academic research and/or other water-related careers. The program will award  students and faculty at colleges and institutions in the United States with scholarships to India in 2024-25, where they will conduct collaborative research at top-tier Indian institutions.

Eligibility 

  • U.S. Citizen or permanent resident 
  • Either one of the following:
    • Enrolled at the master's or graduate level
    • Working as a faculty at a college or institution in US and in a water-related program such as agronomy, agricultural economics, biological sciences, chemistry, earth and atmospheric sciences, engineering, hydrology, political science or natural resources.

Perks

  • Grant for Tution + hostel cost : ₹25,000/- ($290)
  • Grant for Stipend + local hospitality: ₹50,000 ($580)
  • The airfare for students and faculty may come from faculty grants in the U.S. and applicants should request information from their home institution.
  • Academic credit may be awarded as part of this scholarship and should be arranged through the student's program at their home institution.

How to apply

  • Candidate need to submit the following documents in a single PDF document to direct apply link: 
    • Application form (page 2 to 5)
    • Two Page resume or CV
    • One recommendation letter from an academic advisor (students only)
  • Students should work with their advisors to prepare applications.
  • Students and faculty applicants may independently arrange mentors and institutions in India but should indicate so in the application.
  • Independently arranging mentors and institutions in India is not a requirement for submitting an application.

Selection Process 

  • The University of Nebraska-Lincoln will send all applications to IUSSTF, which in coordination with DST, will help select candidates and university placements based on the candidate's field of study and research interests.
  • The selected candidates will be notified till 01-Febraury-2025

  • Water/wastewater quality, management, and reuse
  • Chemical and microbial risk research including water remediation
  • Sustainable water infrastructure

  • Water research linked to climate change and sustainability including remote-sensing applications
  • Water and energy nexus
  • Nutrient recovery and management
  • Health and water research including climate impacts
  • Water-relevant research in earth sciences and atmospheric sciences
  • Applications of data sciences, AI, and machine learning to water research
  • Economics and policy relevance in water sciences
