Yale Publishing Internship 2025

Yale University Press offers competitive paid internship opportunities to learn about publishing in various business areas. By participating in the internship program, students observe the inner workings of a major university press and successful business. The value of this internship is to gain experience and to show a potential employer your skills and abilities to obtain future employment.

Eligibility

Either one of the following: 
  • Undergraduate students
  • Graduate students
  • Students who graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program within past 18 months.
Tenure of fellowship: June 2 to August 2025

  • Then, Candidate can access application  through direct apply link
  • Applications will be accepted only in the form of Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF formatting. Each application must include a Cover Letter and Résumé.
  • While applying, applicants must indicate to which department they are applying both in the submission form and in the cover letter. 
  • A seperate cover letter must be submitted for each department applied to.
  • Yale University Press does NOT sponsor work visas; and will not provide any supporting documentation for existing visas including offer letters for Curricular Practical Training.

  • Evaluates proposals and manuscripts received from potential authors and literary agents summarizes and presents selected projects to colleagues through out the press,signs book projects, and works with authors
  • Summarizing Proposals, researching sales data, contacting reviewers and blurbers, analyzing manuscript drafts, evaluating illustrations and permissions, and sending complimentary books 
  • Observe Press-wide decision making and interact with other departments
Art Workshop
  • A background or demonstrated interest in art history and/or architectural history
  • Stronger Writing skills
  • Detail orientation
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience working with illustrated books
  • Opportunity to learn about all aspects of the publishing process, from acquisition and manuscripts editorial and production assistant
  • Work on projects such as test and art preparation, descriptive writing for internal memos, proofreading; and sales and marketing research
Art & Architectural ePortal
  • Taken classes in art and/or architectural history and demonstrate attention to detail
  • Experience working with Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Photoshop are preferred
  • Ability to work indepently and judge multiple tasks.
  • A digital platform and first-hand experience with digital publishing 
  • Prepare images for upload to site, creating conversion instructions, checking newly converted books for scanning errors, updating ebook metadeta, and prepare shipments of books to freelance taaggers and proofreaders
Manuscript Editorial
  • Keen eye anad attention to detail in a short written exercise
  • Copyediting and proofreading as well as evaluating corrections to text and illustrations 
  • Work with authors, freelancers, and in-house colleagues
  •  Learn about the editorial organization of books, editorial and typographical considerations in typeset pages, and house processes and to become familiar with The Chicago Manual of Style
  •  Gain hands-on-experience by checking typeset pages(PDFs) and indexes at various stages, with appropriate supervision and feedback
Marketing Department
  • Experience with Excel, HTML, Photoshop and InDesign is a plus
  • Tasks related to promotional activities, which may include reasearch assigments, culling citations from reviews, assisting with catalouge and galley production, blogging, producing digital marketing assests, and oraginizing data
  •  Attend press-wide launch meetings and monthly marketing meetings
New Business and Product Development
  • Analytical Skills

  • User research, competitive analysis, and site testing 
  • Ongoing product development of the A&AePortal and updates to our interaction of ColorApp
Production Department
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience with data entry 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Learn about bookmaking behind the scenes
  • Aid in various duties, such as assisting the senior reprint controller with ordering print-on-demand editions, working with spreadsheets to track metadata for backlist books
  •  Update electronic archives of book jackets and covers
Publicity Department
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat and Outlook
  • Gain hands-on-experience in a publicity department as they work under the supervision of the publicity assistant
  • Learn to liaise with media contacts, assist in the production of promotional materials, track media coverage, and send materials, both digital and print, to media contacts across North Amaerica
  • Work on long-term projects, such as compiling the annual holiday gift book catalog and reasearching media outlets and opprtunities for select dall titles
Sales Department
  • Interest in book publishing, marketing or business
  • Generating a variety of sales and inventory report for analysis; outreach and support for books sales at author; support sales reps and other projects as they rise
  •  Attend launch meetings and monthly marketing meetings, among others

Selection Process

  • Selection candidates will be notified after 3 March 2025
  • If a candidate do not receive an offer by 3April 2025, then they have not been selected as a candidate for the current year
  • The selected candidate will commit to the full 10 weeks and have to spend 30 hours a week.

  • Stipend at rate of $16.35 per hour
  • Work with Yale either  in-person, remote, or hybrid depending on position.
