CERN Summer Student Program

This program is for students currently studying for a Bachelor or Master degree in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science or Mathematics who are looking for a training period during the European summer (June – September). Over the period of 8 to 13 weeks, students will work on advance technical project in experimental or engineering team. A report is to be submitted by the student at the end of student's stay. Students will also have the opportunity to attend a series of lectures specially prepared for them.

Eligibility

  • Any nationality
  • Remains student till the program complete
  • Graduating till 2025(as of May) are also eligibile to apply
  • Not worked with CERN before for any status for more than 3 months.
  • English Language 
  • Either:
  • Bachelor and should have completed, by the European Summer 2025, at least 6 semesters of full-time studies in the field, at university level.
  • Master and should have completed, by the European Summer 2025, at least 6 semesters of full-time studies in the field, at university level.

Qualifications (Required)

Either one of the following: 
  • Physics 
  • Engineering
  • Computer Science
  • Mathematics

How to apply

  • Candidates need to clearly label their documents in English or French 
  • Candidate need to apply on CERN application portal by visiting it through direct apply link with following documents:
    • A CV 
    • A copy of your most recent official academic transcript (if you download it from your university portal please make sure there is no protection so that we can open it).
    • At least one reference letter (dated less than 12 months), preferably two. Second Reference letter can be from proevious internship.
  • Candidate need to upload all the documentsat time of application as any document cannot be added later.
  • Documents should be in PDF format.

Selection Process

  • Once candidate's application has been submitted, candidate will receive a confirmation e-mail.
  • Selected Candidate will be taking internship in person from June-August 2025.

  • 93 CFH ($102 or ₹8783) per calendar day 
  • A travel allowance paid at end of stay from home residence to Geneva
  • Coverage by CERN’s comprehensive Health Insurance scheme
  • Assitance to find accomodation 
  • An extensive IT lecture programme, students will also be able to attend the CERN generic summer student lecture programme if they wish.
  • The few students who are paid directly from a national funding agency have to come to CERN with their own insurance coverage.

Possible Arrival date

  • Every Monday from beginning to end of June, namely 2 June, 9 June*, 16 June, 23 June and 30 June 2025 (limited arrival places each Monday)
  • Non-Member State students can arrive starting from 9 June
